Firefighters from area companies visited Divine Redeemer School as part of Fire Prevention Week.

Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders listened to Bob Pullock from the Penn State Cooperative Extension in Indiana, PA talk about apples.  He told students the timeline from seed to fruit and let students know that Pennsylvania is the one of the top 10 producers of apples in the nation.  Students learned about the different varieties of apples and had the opportunity to sample them as well as sample apple cider. 


Preschool through Grade 6 at Divine Redeemer School were entertained by the performance of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" presented by the Windy City Players out of Chicago, IL.  This performance featured three professional actors and included audience participation.  Providing educational and entertaining live theater with positive life skills lessons, the troupe succeeded in stressing positive moral values and character traits for the students as they watched and participated. Divine Redeemer had a Veteran's Day Assembly in our school cafeteria.  There were approximately 35 veterans in attendance as well as State Rep. Jeff Pyle who delivered a very moving speech to our students and all who attended.


Divine Redeemer Show Choir and Bell Choir presented an evening of entertainment on the school stage.   Mrs. Tami Bernot led the Show Choir, made up of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, in a number of Christmas carols as dinner music.  The Show Choir, also made up of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, presented a musical entitled "The Birthday of a King" while guests enjoyed a spaghetti dinner served by 6th grade boys. 

 
Divine Redeemer had a visitor from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ranger Pegg, during the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade science classes.  Ranger Pegg discussed waterfowl in our area, in particular the wood duck.  Students learned about habitats, predator/prey, camouflage, adaptations, and the food chain of the wood duck.  The highlight of the visit was when the students got assist Ranger Peg in actually building a wood duck house. 

 
Divine Redeemer students preschool through sfixth grade did a great job performing Christmas songs for family and friends at St. Mary Parish Hall in Kittanning.
