By the end of fourth grade you can expect your child to:
1. Begin to make more decisions and engage in group decision-making.
2. Want to be part of a group.
3. Think independently and critically.
4. Have empathy.
5. Speak and understand some basic Spanish (numbers 1–10, colors, body parts, etc).
6. Show a strong sense of responsibility.
7. Be able to memorize and recite facts, although they may not have a deep understanding of them.
8. Increase the amount of detail in drawings.
9. Work on research projects.
10. Write a structured paragraph with an introductory topic sentence, three supporting details, and concluding sentence to support the main idea of the paragraph.
11. Use a range of strategies when drawing meaning from text, such as prediction and connection.
12. Understand cause and effect relationships.
13. Add and subtract decimals, and compare decimals and fractions.
14. Multiply multi digit numbers by two digit numbers (26 x 5,348)
15. Divide larger multi digit numbers by one digit numbers (1,215/3)
16. Find the area of two dimensional shapes.
17. Count money.
18. Have a greater awareness of fairness issues.
19. Know and understand the Ten Commandments, and corporal and spiritual works of mercy
20. Have a greater awareness of the Mass and participate as readers and cantors.
21. Understand the sacrament of the anointing of the sick.
