By the end of second grade you can expect your child to:
1. Begin to reason and concentrate.
2. Improve their ability to process information.
3. Work cooperatively with a partner or small group.
4. Understand the difference between right and wrong.
5. Speak some basic Spanish (numbers 1 – 10, colors, body parts, etc).
6. Make connections between concepts so they will be better able to compare and contrast.
7. Expand their vocabulary.
8. Read fluently with expression.
9. Recognize most irregularly spelled words such as 'because' and 'upon.'
10. Begin to use a dictionary.
11. Begin to write in cursive.
12. Add single and multi digit numbers with regrouping.
13. Tell time to the quarter-hour.
14. Know the concept of multiplication (for example, 2 x 3 is two rows of three).
15. Know the Act of Contrition and sacraments of baptism, reconciliation, holy Eucharist, and confirmation.
